Our Mission

Handmade Haven is a traveling art workshop that does all different art mediums. What sets us apart: we are about creative exploration and reconnecting with that little kid inside of you. No craft night is alike and no craft made is alike. Come for the craft, stay for the connections.

Makayla Passero

Makayla is the creative heart behind Handmade Haven. With a love for playful expression and hands-on projects, she creates workshops that encourage you to slow down, explore new materials, and enjoy the process of making. Her sessions are relaxed, welcoming, and often a little messy — the perfect mix for reconnecting with your inner child and maybe even making a new friend along the way. Makayla believes everyone is creative in their own way — they just need the right space to let that energy loose.

Our Story

When’s the Last Time You Let Yourself  Feel Like a Kid?

At Handmade Haven, our workshops are about so much more than creating something beautiful — they're about remembering a part of yourself you may have forgotten.

It all started while my husband and I were planning our wedding. I had a dream for our reception space to feel like a greenhouse meets a cozy Victorian living room — complete with greenery tunnels and a beautiful, tiered fountain to welcome guests. But I couldn’t find a fountain that matched my vision or my budget.

So, I decided to make one myself, duh!

I’ve always had a “figure it out as I go” kind of attitude. I don’t let a lack of experience stop me from trying something new — and this was no exception. I built the base from terrocota pots and decided to mosaic it with broken china.

There I was, surrounded by shards of vintage plates and covered in mortar, when something hit me: I felt like a kid again. Not in a nostalgic way — in a real, present, full-body way. I was playing. Exploring. Creating without a roadmap. It was messy and imperfect, and it felt incredible. For the first time in a long time I had gotten lost in what I was doing and forgot about the challenges of the adult world.

That moment lit something in me. I realized how rarely we give ourselves the freedom to just try, play, and get messy — not for the end result, but for the joy of the process. I craved more of that, and I wanted to create spaces where other people could feel that too.

That’s the heart behind every Handmade Haven workshop. So many adults carry the belief that they’re “not creative.” But creativity isn’t about being good at art — it’s about giving yourself permission to explore and play. To make a mess and see what happens. To let your imagination take the wheel. It’s about curiosity, courage, and reconnecting with the part of you that’s still wildly playful — and always has been. At Handmade Haven, we create space for that kind of rediscovery — because your inner kid never left. They’re just waiting for an invitation back in.
